LIVE Padlock Install process
If more than a few padlocks are to be installed in a store, pre-enrolling will save time and allow test fit and operation at the lock’s final location. Without pre-enrollment, the user cannot immediately access the lock to test or open it. Unlike LIVE Locks which can work with the app, padlocks only have the IR port to transfer data.
The process to enroll a lock using a key and OKM involves:
- Check out a key
- Engage new lock to collect new lock SN
- (Nack-Nack sound. Unrecognized SN, cannot open)
- Check in the key
- (Registers SN in the system in “New Devices” zone)
- System updates all user accounts
- (Add new SN to all New Device zone users)
- Refresh OKM data with for user access to new SN
- (User may need to tell OKM to check for updates)
- Check out another key
- (After update to allow access to the new lock)
- 2nd key is able to unlock the lock.
Padlock and OKM locations may be physically far apart making this process very time consuming.
Pre-enrollment while Lock and OKM are together will speed up the overall process.
Main steps for installing padlocks
- Collect information
- Regardless of the method of pre-enrollment, the first step is to collect information about the locks.
- This is needed to order locks for the installation.
- It will have to be known to complete the install so collect it all as first step.
- Create a table noting each lock type, name, and zone.
- Regardless of the method of pre-enrollment, the first step is to collect information about the locks.
- Set up user and customer environment
- Ensure installer has access to New Devices zone and all zones the padlocks will be assigned
-
Pre-enroll locks – See methods below
- Get locks into the system so a key can be checked out and used during physical installation
- Install and test
- Select "Check for updates" on the OKM to get the latest list of SNs for installers
- Check out new keys for users with access to the padlock zone(s)
- Install locks according to markings on the lock or packaging
- Test lock/unlock with IR key
Pre-enroll using OKM with few users in the “New Devices” zone.
If only a few users are assigned to the New Devices zone, pre-enrollment may use the OKM instead of the tablet app.
- Large user counts in the New Devices zone will result in poor performance of this method.
- Several installers working at the same time may make locks hard to identify in the last step.
Before using this method:
- Check to see if the New Devices zone has limited users (the intent if for installers and managers only)
- Check to ensure the New Devices zone is empty.
Previous devices should be named and assigned to the proper zone for access, security, and reporting.
Required items
- Computer with browser to LIVE Access web portal
- Connected OKM and available OneKEY
OKM pre-install process
Suggestion: Organize locks in small batches (about 5 locks at a time)
- Check out a key from OKM
- Engage key with each lock
- Note the name and zone on each lock or package
- Use IR port to collect new lock SN
- Keep track of order of engagement (and SN)
- Check key back in
- Find and edit new locks in New Device zone in web portal
- Timestamp order (and SN) should match users’ engagement
- Edit each new lock with the name and proper final zone
Repeat in small batches until all locks are enrolled and labeled with the final name/zone.
Appendix
Large user count issues.
The LIVE Access system must update all user accounts with new lock access as each lock is added.
Very large user counts may slow system performance and slow the installation process.
The intent of the New Devices zone is for temporary use by installers and admins only. Updating this limited group of users should not take long allowing install to proceed normally.
Very few users and/or devices are expected in this zone. Devices should be renamed and reassigned to final zones accessible by normal operating users.
If lots of users have access to New Devices zone, or the final padlock zone, the system may slow while it updates all users with each new lock. If you experience system slowdown, this issue can be managed by moving the larger user group update step to a more convenient time.
- Create a new zone like “Install only” with very limited users.
- Ensure installers have access to the new zone.
- Use tablet app to pre-enroll devices into the new zone.
- Fewer users to update allows the enrollment process to proceed quickly.
- After enrollment is complete, and some time is available like end of the day.
- Use the LIVE Access web portal to edit the locks and assign to the final zone with large user count.
- This step will take some time to update all users and OKMs.
- Saving this step for a convenient time like end of day or lunch may help reduce overall install time.
