Symptoms
IR4 Key Charging Issues
-
Key LED does not blink red when on charger → Possible charger issue
-
Key LED blinks red continuously, but never turns green → Charging circuit failure
-
Key LED blinks red, but no LED response when button pressed after charging → Charging failure
-
Key LED blinks red during charging, but turns orange when button pressed → Low battery warning
IR2 Programming Station Authorization Failures
-
IR4 key does not authorize; IR2 station LED blinks red 3 times
-
IR4 key does not authorize; no LED response on IR2 station
-
IR4 key does not authorize; IR2 station LED is blue (communication OK, but low battery in key)
-
IR4 key only authorizes in certain physical orientations
Cause
Compatibility Issues
-
IR2 Programming Station: Designed in 2011
-
IR4 Key: Introduced in 2022
-
Incompatibility between legacy IR2 technology and newer IR4 keys causes communication and authorization failures
Battery Charging Issue in IR4 Key
-
Faulty soldering on U2 charging chip
-
Charging circuitry fails; key does not actually charge despite LED indicators
Firmware Issue in IR4 Key
-
FW monitors battery voltage and sets a “low voltage” flag
-
Flag is not cleared after recharging unless the key powers down after 30 seconds of inactivity
-
Fixed in new firmware release (Dec 2023)
-
Firmware update is possible via OKMs, not IR2 stations
Resolution Steps
For IR4 Key Charging Issues
-
Check charger power if no red blinking LED appears
-
If LED blinks red but never turns green after 8 hours, RMA the key
-
If LED blinks red but no LED on button press → RMA the key
-
If LED is orange after charging attempt → Low battery warning, RMA the key
For IR2 Programming Station Authorization Issues
-
If LED blinks red 3 times → Cross-coding issue
-
Identify correct SDC (key or station), RMA only the incorrect device
-
-
If no LED response → Compatibility issue → RMA the IR2 station
-
If LED is blue but key does not authorize
-
Charge the key fully
-
If issue persists, check firmware version
-
RMA the key if outdated or still not working
-
-
If key only works at specific angles → RMA the IR2 station
Workaround (if available)
-
Use OKM (On-Key Module) for firmware updates on IR4 keys
-
Avoid using IR2 Programming Stations with IR4 keys if possible
Additional Notes
-
Orange LED = normal low battery indication
-
IR2 programming stations are legacy hardware and may not be compatible with IR4 key enhancements
